Set to premiere in late 2019, BBC has a CGI Masterpiece in the works with a pretty stacked cast to tell the story of ‘His Dark Materials’ based on a Phillip Pullman trilogy of the same name. You may remember the ‘Golden Compass’ that was released back 2007, but this is going to be a new take on the series. So what do we know so far?
One Novel Per Season
The ‘Dark Materiels’ consists of three books by Pullman. They include ‘The Golden Compass’, ‘The Subtle Knife’, and ‘The Amber Spyglass’. Each novel will have its own season of eight episodes with the show already being ordered for a second season.
Star Studded Cast
The cast here is really top notch. James McAvoy will be playing Lord Asriel, Ruth Wilson will be playing Marisa Coulter, Lin-Manuel Miranda will be playing Lee Scoresby, and Dafne Keen will be the main character Lyra Belacqua.
This series is said to be one of the largest productions attempted by BBC. With the CGI necessary to really do these books justice, it is no wonder. BBC is really doing the “All Eggs in One Basket’ approach and hoping for Game of Thrones level return. Personally, I think the story has the bones to pull it off if they nail the production.
